Become a grant panelist

Erie Arts and Culture seeks artists and administrators to serve as grant review panelists. Panelists play a crucial role in our grant-making process by reviewing applications, providing valuable insights, and helping select recipients for our funding programs.

What Does a Grant Panelist Do?

  • Learn Program Guidelines: Panelists participate in a 30-minute orientation session with the program officer to understand the program guidelines and evaluation process.

  • Review Applications: Panelists asynchronously read and score applications according to the program rubric, making constructive comments. The review period lasts about four weeks.

  • Panel Meeting: After the scoring period, panelists convene virtually for 1-2 hours to discuss applications, review scores, and make a funding recommendation.

  • Time Commitment: The overall time commitment is generally 4-8 hours.

Why Become a Grant Panelist?

  • Professional Growth: Serving as a panelist is a valuable professional development opportunity, especially for those applying for similar funding opportunities. It offers a chance to understand the review process and see what makes a strong, compelling application.

  • Honorarium: Panelists receive an honorarium for their time and expertise.

  • Diverse Representation: We aim to assemble review panels that represent the applicant pool in artistic discipline, geographic location, age, and race/ethnicity, among other considerations.

Filling out the application does not guarantee a person will be selected to serve as a panelist, but it is the first step in joining our team.
